Porky Pig Would Be Happy

National Review Online has a great article on the wasteful and corrupt nature of earmarks.  Earmarks, while not the biggest part of the federal budget, represent the worst aspects of government.  Namely, using your tax dollars to fund projects that have no business receiving government support.  You could argue that some of these projects should exist on their own merit, but there is nothing vital about spending our money to support projects like an Iowa rainforest, a Woodstock mueseum in New York, or the Alaskan "Bridge to Nowhere."

So with that in mind, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid wants nothing to do with reforming the process.  Because nothing says safeguarding taxpayer money like building bridges that will enhance the property value of a certain someone's land.

There's at least one man that will safeguard the taxpayers on this insidious practice, right?  Afterall, John McCain, good ol' Senator Straighttalkexpress himself, plans to end pork-barrel spending.  Or maybe not.  He considers the problem of pork "peanuts" and would rather go after "big fat stock options."  Because nothing says looking out for the taxpayers by going after successful people who earned their wealth, and allowing the "peanut" problem of wasting taxpayer dollars on projects that have no economic value to go unabated.
