Re-Branding Damaged Goods
Drudge has an article posted on his website from a San Francisco paper regarding comments made by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger calling for the GOP to re-brand itself.
Senator McCain looks to be embracing this idea, which is sure to piss off the right-wing talk radio crowd even more than it already is at him (expect Limbaugh to go off on this article Monday). And while I would find myself in disagreement with many of the issues that Schwarzenegger suggests the GOP change their stance on, the bottom line is the GOP name is tarnished right now. The party has turned itself into a party of wasteful bloated spending, imperialism, war-mongering, hypocrisy, and corruption.
Which is why McCain is not the man to change the GOP's course. While the media claimed McCain talked earlier this week about troop withdrawals from Iraq by 2013, that's blatantly false. McCain has long had his eyes on possible military action against Iran, a viewpoint McCain confidant (and possible McCain Cabinet post nominee) Joe Lieberman reinforces. As for hypocrisy, the architect of politial censorship under the guise of campaign finance reform is now doing an about-face since it's beneficial to his campaign. As for corruption, McCain's already starred in his own scandal.
Three strikes, Johnny. But don't worry, you're already in.
